On the Ground at the US Midterms: Reporting from Texas and Detroit

On November 3, US voters head to the polls for the midterm elections, which will decide control of the Senate and the House of Representatives rather than the presidency. I am reporting from the field ahead of and on election day, looking at how local economic pressures and foreign policy issues are shaping voters' decisions.

■ What the midterms decide
- Which party controls the Senate and the House, and how a Democratic majority could block the president's agenda
- Texas, District 35, south and east of San Antonio
- Farmers and ranchers responding to higher costs and fuel prices, including the push to lower them through Russian diesel
- Spanish-speaking citizens who voted for Trump in 2024, and whether the actions of masked ICE agents affect their vote
■ Election day around Detroit
- Dearborn: voters in a district that could send the first Muslim politician to the Senate, and those who backed Trump over promises to end the Gaza war
- Warren: auto factories hit by tariffs on Canada
■ The bigger question
- How Trump might respond if Democrats win, following his claims of fraud in 2020 and the storming of the Capitol

This is for viewers who want an on-the-ground picture of the midterms beyond national polling and commentary. Watching it gives you a clearer sense of the local issues, costs, and foreign policy debates driving voters in key districts, and context for reading the election results.
