Sexual Violence and Barriers to Justice in Iraq

I report on sexual violence in Iraq through survivor accounts and interviews with activists and officials. The coverage examines why abuse is often underreported, how social pressure and legal gaps affect survivors, and what responses are being pursued.

■ Survivor experiences and reporting barriers
- Accounts of abuse within families and public harassment, and the risks survivors face when seeking help
- Social stigma, limited safe accommodation, and obstacles to reporting cases
■ Activism, law, and official responses
- Online documentation of allegations, threats against women’s rights advocates, and gaps in the legal framework
- Government figures and an official response to concerns about police reporting procedures

For viewers seeking context on women’s safety and access to justice in Iraq, these reports offer perspectives from survivors, advocates, and authorities. The focus is on cases and reporting conditions described in Iraq; it does not establish the full scale of abuse, and it highlights the importance of understanding safe reporting options and legal protections.
